5 Cities Judo Club

Head Sensei

Mario Rubio

Class starts at about 7:00pm on Monday and Wednesday stops around 8:30pm

Classes are held at the Boy Scout Troop 413 Building

490 E. Cherry
Arroyo Grande, CA 93420

Mario runs a fun club. He has loads of Judo knowledge and competed in the 1976, 1980, and 1984 Olympic trials. Mario has been involved in Judo since 1960 and has held an elite national roster status for 12 years of that period.

Our club attendance ranges from 6 persons to 25, male and female, and students' ages range from elementary school to retired folks. What happens in each class varies greatly, but in a normal class we start by stretching, move to conditioning, then practice stand up (throws) and then finish the class with matwork practice. Class structure is flexible and is largely determined by the training needs of the students.

The club sends a team to several Judo tournaments every year, and some of us compete in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments also.

Judo is a grappling art. There is no punching and kicking. Matches are won by Throws and pins and and chokes and armlocks.

Cost: Members pay dues of $20 per month or make arrangements with Sensei. Our club is not a business but we do have bills to pay.

Members must also be members of USJF, which insures the member and the club. That cost is just under $40 annually.

A Gi or Kimono is required to compete in tournaments and costs from $35 to $200 depending on quality. Most people buy $50-$60 Gis.

Stop in and be introduced to Judo!!!
