Beachfront
Willy & Deanna moved to a home on the beach.  It is in Kapilina Beach Homes on Iroquois Point, in Ewa Beach.  The beach is adjacent to the Pearl Harbor inlet channel on the west side.  Willy and Deanna have an expansive view of the ocean and Diamond Head, and often see ships and submarines out their window as they arrive and depart Pearl Harbor. It is truly their dream come true to be living here!  Surfing has become very convenient for Willy.  He has surfed every single day at least once since mid-July unless he was off the island that day. He reached his record run of 84 consecutive days (12 weeks) which only ended because of the trip to Atlanta.

Grammy Life
Deanna has settled into retirement and enjoys being at home on the beach, her garden and her birds. She also has become a traveling Grammy. She has flown to see the grandkids in Colorado and Georgia several times this year. On some trips, Willy and his mom Dorothy have gone with her as well. It’s been wonderful to see the grandkids grow and develop so many skills and interests.

Visitors
Willy and Deanna very much enjoy having visitors and showing them their island!  It is fun for Willy and Deanna to help visitors get the most out of their island trip.  This year we were visited by Kirk & Melanie and their kids.  Larry, Logan, Tsurumi, Stephanie, Dana and Beth & Kelsey also came.  Pat and Heather recently visited.  Surely there were others!

Georgia
Chad and Jamie live in Georgia.  They have a large yard with a creek running through it.  Their family loves going on creek adventure walks together.  They also set up a rope course for the boys and are making plans for a treehouse.  Declan started kindergarten this year and is driven to learn everything.  He has endless energy and loves playing soccer.  Kason turned 3 and enjoys building things and discovering how things work.  He also started soccer this year.  Both boys passed a water safety class this year and continue taking swimming lessons.  Zeya turned one and never ever stops smiling.  What a joy she is!  She is our tiny warrior baby and has overcome so much in her first year, having been born early and under 2 lbs.  The Hendersons came from Birmingham to visit Willy and Deanna in Georgia.

Colorado
Living in Colorado, Kirk and Melanie enjoy all the mountains have to offer. They love to get away together on ski trips and visiting national and state parks near them. Bluffs Regional Park is behind their house.  They take family hikes up “monster mountain” on a regular basis.  The kids love the water and with an indoor pool and outdoor pool nearby, they swim all year.  Hudson turned six this year and loves Ninja Nation, drawing, and skiing.  He also started taking acting classes.  Brooklyn is 3 and loves ballet, gymnastics, working puzzles and “pool swim”.  She is also very close to skiing all by herself.

Ohio
Willy attended his 46th High School class reunion in Ohio.  Thank you very much Rob and Becky Hickman for putting me up again.  It was great for him to see everyone!  While in Ohio, Willy got to visit Dave Phillips and Kevin Strait, and went to Dayton to see cousin Tina, and  Uncle Don and  Aunt Eileen.

Jiu-Jitsu
Willy calls his new Jiu-Jitsu group Team Pearl.  Most of the group are engineering students or instructors at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.  Sometimes they train at the Pearl Harbor base gym, and sometimes they workout is on mats in Willy’s yard.  Some also visit Ryan and Noel’s school in Wahiawa, at Central Oahu Jiu-Jitsu.  For a few months now they have been meeting on Saturday, at an event called Surf-Jitsu.  They surf at Willy’s house from 7am to 9am, then they are on the mats from 9am to food time.

Fishing
Weather permitting, Willy spends time fishing from his boat.  He hopes to catch a nice pelagic fish, but has not had much success.  Fishing on the bottom goes fairly well, but those fish are smaller and not the ones he really wants.  He did catch the largest fish he has ever caught, beating his prior record by at least a factor of 4!  It was a 6 or 7 foot Galapagos Shark, which Willy released.  Willy also caught an octopus using a fishing pole, a first!
