Willy Retired
Willy retired in May! Hopefully this one lasts. There was a celebratory event at Willy and Deannas home with food, a band (Chain Reaction) and 125 guests! The event lasted about 12 hours, from the time the sunrise surfers arrived until evening when the last visitors left. About half the guests were Willys co-workers, and half were from the community. Dave and Brenda Gleason came to witness it, and the big surprise was Kirks attendance. Deanna woke Willy up from napping, and said there was someone here that wanted to train Jiu-Jitsu. Kirk was wearing a hat and sunglasses, so when Willy came around the corner to greet him, he did not recognize him and introduced himself. Kirk explained that it was not necessary to introduce himself to his son!

Greece and Türkiye
Willy and Deanna went on a wonderful September cruise to the Greek Islands and Türkiye. Dave and Brenda Gleason joined them. They all flew in and out of Athens, where they started and ended their voyage. Before departing, Willy and Deanna stayed a couple days in Athens. Their hotels were within walking distance from the Acropolis. They visited the Greek islands of Santorini, Mykonos and Crete, and in Türkiye, they stopped at Istanbul and Bodrum. They explored the Bodrum Castle, and visited the Egyptian Spice market in Istanbul. It was interesting to see brilliantly engineered architecture, some of which remains standing after thousands of years. Prices were low and the food was excellent. The local people were friendly and took great pride in the quality of any work they did. The Costa cruise ship passengers were mostly European, and Willy used a translation app to effectively communicate in 14 languages! Willy had the most fun he has had in years when they visited Santorini. There were three choices to get to the town up a vertical 500 feet from the dock. Cable car, walking or donkey were the choices. Well, the no-brainer choice was to take a donkey! The 10 donkey ride was exciting and hilarious. The donkeys climbed a steep slippery cobblestone series of switchbacks. Donkeys would jockey their way up through people and other donkeys going up and down. Deanna and Willy laughed the whole way up. Parts of the ride seemed precarious when the donkey was next to the wall. The rider's feet were above the wall, and the wall was at the edge of a cliff!
